Martine Rose’s debut as Clarks’ guest creative director is all about redefining comfort with a touch of subversion. The “Coming Up Roses” collection, unveiled at her Spring/Summer 2024 show, is now brought to life in a campaign that oozes intimate charm and bold reimaginings.

Inspired by Clarks‘ vintage ads where beds symbolized ultimate comfort, Rose’s “MR possé” takes center stage in a series of bedroom vignettes. These retro settings, photographed by Sharna Osbourne, are delicately balanced between reality and artifice, mirroring the collection’s playful yet sophisticated approach.

Lounging amidst the comforters, we discover the four iconic silhouettes from the Clarks archives that Rose has reinterpreted. Nodding to Erwin Wurm’s “Fat Cars convertibles“, the Oxford, Loafer, and Sandal are blown up in proportion while retaining their classic DNA. Made from 100% recycled nylon and lined with breathable leather, these cheeky pink, brown, green, oxblood, and black snake-effect styles sit atop molded soles for maximum comfort.

The classic Oxford is reimagined with a padded silhouette and recycled nylon upper, injecting a sporty vibe into this fashion staple. The Loafer transforms into a bolder version with a 20mm wedge sole and inflated heel. The Sandal ditches the Velcro and boasts three adjustable straps with magnetic closure for a modern touch.

Completing the collection is the Torhill Hi, a high-top descendant of the iconic Clarks Wallabee. This silhouette features a chunky grated thermoplastic rubber outsole and is exclusively crafted in snake-effect leather with a branded embossed leather button.

The collection was all about comfort and this exaggerated feeling of softness and suppleness,” Martine Rose explains. “Bedding felt like a natural extension of that idea. Personal spaces have become a motif of the brand, and “Coming Up Roses” evokes that intimacy I like to draw people into. It’s about familiarity, memory, and connection.”

True to Rose’s signature style, the familiar becomes unfamiliar, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Available since February 12th on Martine-Rose.com and Selfridges, and February 16th globally on Clarks.com and at select retailers.
