Versace, a brand synonymous with luxury and opulence, unveils its latest creation, the Versace Mercury. While the Italian fashion house is best known for their stunning runway collections, it’s clear that they are determined to leave an indelible mark on the world of footwear. Set to debut in June, the Versace Mercury is a testament to the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of footwear design.
At first glance, the Versace Mercury embodies the maximalist design language that has become a hallmark not only of the Versace footwear catalog, but of designer footwear as a whole. Models such as the Chain Reaction, Trigreca and Odissea paved the way for this bold aesthetic, and the Mercury takes it to new heights. The sole unit is a masterpiece of layering and geometric rubber sections, with the outsole extending to the toe at the forefoot, creating a striking visual impact.
But what really sets the Versace Mercury apart is its innovative open-air design language. Interlinked cords, supported by subtle leather patches, seamlessly connect the upper to the sole, creating a unique and eye-catching look. According to Versace, the « handmade woven lace » is at the heart of this dynamic design, requiring the expertise of 27 artisans and incorporating an impressive 16 meters of material.
The initial release of the Versace Mercury will offer two colorways: a classic « Triple White » and a timeless « Triple Black ». These editions will be available for purchase on June 4 through official Versace channels and select boutiques worldwide. A wider release is expected to follow at a later date.
