Pharrell Williams, the multi-talented artist and long-time adidas collaborator, has once again pushed the boundaries of sneaker design with the unveiling of the adidas Superstar “Double Wide” at Paris Fashion Week. This latest creation, also known as the Superstar 92, draws inspiration from the chunky aesthetic of 90s skate shoes and snowboarding boots, resulting in a daring reimagination of the classic Superstar silhouette.
The adidas Superstar “Double Wide” boasts thick padding, a fat tongue, and oversized stripes, creating a bold and eye-catching appearance. However, the most notable update is the re-tooled shell toe, which adds a unique twist to the iconic design.
Debuting in a familiar black and white colorway, the Superstar 92 also showcases a different “Superstar” typography on the quarter and blue laces, further setting it apart from its predecessors. This fresh take on a classic demonstrates Pharrell’s knack for pushing the envelope in sneaker design while still paying homage to the original.
adidas has been no stranger to unique overhauls lately, thanks to collaborations with Pharrell and other A-list partners like CLOT. The recently surfaced CLOT x adidas Dress Superstar is just one example of the brand’s willingness to embrace outside-the-box design choices. The Superstar 92, however, takes this approach to new heights by fully leaning into the 90s skate aesthetic that has proven successful with releases like the adidas Campus 00s.
Stay tuned for updates on the release date and additional colorways of this exciting new collaboration between Pharrell Williams and adidas.
