As the year comes to a close, Nike will release a fresh new colorway of the iconic Air Max Plus, dubbed the “University Gold”. This bold new edition blends vibrant gold accents with the signature black base of the classic silhouette, making it a must-have for sneaker enthusiasts.
The “University Gold” gradient starts at the heel and flows smoothly into the all-black upper. Glossy plastic overlays give the black design a sleek finish, while the gold adds a vibrant pop of color. A small white swoosh on the side provides a sharp contrast and stands out against the darker tones. The design is further enhanced by the white midsole, which breaks up the otherwise all-black look and adds more visual appeal.
The black and yellow palette of the University Gold Air Max Plus is reminiscent of other classic sneakers like the Jordan 12 Taxi and the Wu-Tang Dunks. However, the gradient seen here is more subdued, appearing primarily around the heel. Black treatments make up the rest of the upper, save for the “University Gold” tongue branding and a white mini swoosh for contrast.
Designed by Sean McDowell in 1998, the Nike Air Max Plus is known for its Tuned Air technology and bold aesthetic. This new Black/University Gold version updates the classic with a fresh and modern look. The midfoot structure mimics the Black to University Gold gradient seen on the upper, paving a seamless transition to the outsole to top off the delivery.
While diehard Tn fans may prefer an all-black midsole for consistency, the midsole actually appears in white, adding a touch of contrast to the overall design. The “University Gold” Air Max Plus is expected to arrive during the holiday season in 2024 and will be available in men’s sizes at select Nike Sportswear retailers, online and on Nike.com. Retail price is expected to be $180 USD.
