The Nike Air Foamposite One “Cough Drop” is set to return in Fall 2025, much to the delight of Foamposite fanatics everywhere. This beloved colorway, which first dropped in 2007 and saw a retro release in 2010, is considered an all-time classic in the Foamposite lineage.
The “Cough Drop” moniker comes from the shoe’s eye-catching varsity red translucent outsole, which bears a striking resemblance to the color of traditional cough drop candies. The rest of the sneaker is decked out in stealthy black, from the molded Foamposite upper to the nubuck eyelets and mesh tongue. Fiery red accents on the branding, pull tabs and tongue provide the perfect pop of contrast.
While it may not have the same legendary status as some of the original Foamposite colorways from the late 90’s, the “Cough Drop” still holds a special place in the hearts of many collectors. It represents the end of the Foamposite’s “golden era” in the late 2000s, before the hype for the futuristic basketball model began to fade.
Nike seems determined to reignite that Foamposite fervor, with the “Cough Drop” retro joining other highly anticipated releases like the “Copper” and “Galaxy” colorways. The swoosh is also experimenting with new Foamposite concepts like region-exclusive “DMV” make-ups and even a rumored Tekken video game collaboration.
Of course, no Foamposite retrospective would be complete without mentioning Penny Hardaway, the four-time NBA All-Star whose signature line launched the Foamposite phenomenon. Penny’s 1Cent logo still graces the heel of every Foamposite release, a lasting tribute to his enduring legacy and partnership with Nike.
If previous retro releases are any indication, these will be an instant sellout when they hit shelves in fall 2025, with an expected retail price of $240.
