adidas is set to release the highly anticipated Puig Samba, a hybrid sneaker that brings together the classic Samba and Lucas Puig’s signature model, merging the worlds of skateboarding and soccer.
The adidas Puig Samba, set to release in August, will feature the iconic “Cloud White/Core Black” colorway, instantly recognizable to fans of both the Samba and Puig models. The upper takes inspiration from the terrace style staple, with a more form-fitting shape, while still incorporating the T-Toe, molded tongue and heel, and Three Stripes motif, complete with gold debossing that reads “Samba” on the lateral side and “Puig” on the medial.
While the upper has been reworked, the sole remains faithful to the original Puig, carrying over the EVA foam cushioning and the Samba’s signature gum look. Lacesaver tech has also been added to increase durability for skating, making the Puig Samba a versatile shoe that can handle both the skatepark and the soccer pitch.
The partnership between adidas and Lucas Puig dates back to 2012, when the French skateboarder signed with the brand. The Puig takes inspiration from the classic Stan Smith, which Lucas began skating in at just 13 years old. Puig has also cited French footballing legend and adidas endorser Zinedine Zidane as a reason for signing with the brand, making the Puig Samba a fitting tribute to both his skateboarding and soccer heritage.
The Samba has been a driving force for adidas in recent years, and comparisons can be drawn to the Samba Millennium, a modernized version of the sneaker introduced in 2009 for indoor soccer. While the Puig Samba may not be a direct remake, it shares a similar spirit of innovation and fusion of styles.
Skateboarding and soccer may seem like vastly different worlds, but the Adidas Puig Samba proves that the two disciplines can come together in perfect harmony.
The adidas Puig Samba will be available on August 1 through Adidas’ website and select third-party retailers, priced at $100.
