JACQUEMUS reinvents the iconic Nike Air Max 1 ’86 with bold redesign

The JACQUEMUS x Nike Air Max 1 ’86 collaboration fearlessly pushes boundaries, breathing new life into the classic running shoe. French fashion label JACQUEMUS, known for its daring designs, has taken Tinker Hatfield’s original creation and given it a complete overhaul that is sure to turn heads.

At first glance, the silhouette remains recognizable, but upon closer inspection, the changes become evident. The mudguard has been re-cut, most notably at the forefoot where the outsole traction scoops up to bisect the toe. This bold design choice sets the tone for the rest of the shoe, signaling that this is not your average Air Max 1.

The transformation continues as you move up the shoe. The overlays at the quarter and mid-foot have been removed, allowing the mesh base to stretch seamlessly from toe to heel. This streamlined approach is complemented by the cinched ankle collar, adding a touch of refinement to the overall aesthetic.

But perhaps the most striking feature of the JACQUEMUS x Nike Air Max 1 ’86 is the sole. The enlarged Air unit is revealed through a rectangular cut-out, a detail that has already sparked conversations among sneaker enthusiasts. It’s a daring move that showcases JACQUEMUS’ willingness to take risks and challenge conventions.

As part of the official reveal, JACQUEMUS unveiled three colorways: a striking red, a sleek silver/navy, and a crisp white. Each pair is set to retail for $180 and will be available on the Jacquemus website in the coming weeks.
