Deckers Brands, the California-based footwear giant responsible for household names like UGG and Hoka, has finally pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated “super sneaker brand,” Ahnu. Unlike a simple revival, Ahnu marks a distinct departure from Deckers’ previous outdoor brand of the same name. This all-new concept aims to disrupt the footwear market by seamlessly blending stylish aesthetics with top-notch performance in a single shoe.
The centerpiece of Ahnu’s debut collection is the Ahnu Sequence 1 sneaker. Drawing inspiration from the world of running shoes, the Ahnu Sequence 1 boasts features specifically designed for all-day comfort and versatility. High-rebound PEBA foam provides a luxuriously cushioned feel, while a responsive carbon-fiber plate enhances stability for confident strides throughout the day.
Catering to a range of preferences, the Ahnu Sequence 1 comes in low-top, mid-top, and high-top variations. Prices start at $225 for the low-top version, increasing to $240 and $255 for the mid-top and high-top models, respectively. Initially available at select retailers in New York City, the shoe will be launched online on Ahnu’s e-commerce site on March 14th.
This launch comes on the heels of a record-breaking quarter for Deckers, with both Hoka and UGG experiencing significant sales growth. For Deckers CEO Dave Powers, Ahnu represents a strategic investment in the company’s future. “We’ve always championed the importance of fostering new growth opportunities within Deckers,” Powers explained. “Our two current powerhouses, Hoka and Ugg, are undeniable successes, but strategic diversification is crucial for long-term prosperity. Ahnu has the potential to be that next big brand for us.”
While the initial focus will be on establishing brand recognition with the Ahnu Sequence 1, Dave Powers has hinted at exciting plans for the future of Ahnu. “We’re actively exploring various footwear categories,” Powers revealed. “The Ahnu team is working on developing our own unique interpretations of classic styles like court shoes, skate shoes, and even basketball sneakers. Of course, these interpretations will incorporate the innovative materials and technologies that are core to the Ahnu identity.” This glimpse into the future suggests that Ahnu might soon be offering a comprehensive footwear collection catering to a wider audience.
Deckers Brands‘ launch of Ahnu signifies a bold step towards establishing a new “super sneaker brand” that prioritizes both style and comfort. The Ahnu Sequence 1 sneaker serves as the brand’s debut offering, and with whispers of future expansion into various footwear categories, Ahnu appears poised to become a significant player in the ever-evolving sneaker landscape.
