adidas unveiled its latest creation in marathon running technology, the Adizero Adios Pro 4. This cutting-edge shoe builds on the success of its predecessors, which have dominated the World Marathon Majors since 2020. The Adizero Adios Pro 4 represents a significant leap forward in running shoe design, offering athletes unparalleled performance benefits.
Developed at the adidas Innovation Lab in Herzogenaurach, Germany, the Adizero Adios Pro 4 underwent rigorous testing with elite runners from multiple countries. The shoe incorporates insights from previous models to improve speed and efficiency for competitive runners.
One of the most notable features of the Adizero Adios Pro 4 is its new forefoot rocker point geometry. Inspired by the groundbreaking Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, the rocker is positioned at 60% of the shoe’s length. This placement has been lab-tested to improve running economy and propel runners forward more effectively.
The Adizero Adios Pro 4 also introduces a revolutionary Lightlock upper. This innovative design combines lightweight, one-way stretch woven mesh with internal locking bands to provide a secure fit that is critical for high-speed running. A new lacing system further enhances the locked-down feel, giving runners confidence in their footwear during intense competition.
adidas engineers studied the impact patterns of elite athletes to develop the Lighttraxion outsole. This new patterned design strategically places grip where it’s needed most, optimizing traction and performance.
Charlotte Heidmann, Global Category Director of Running Footwear at Adidas, expressed her excitement about the new release: “The shoe was designed with and for some of the world’s fastest runners, including Agnes Ngetich, Benson Kipruto and Amos Kipruto, and underscores our commitment to providing our athletes with innovations that help them set their race-winning pace.“
The Adizero Adios Pro 4 weighs approximately 200g for men and 172g for women, making it incredibly lightweight for a marathon shoe. This weight reduction can translate into significant energy savings over the course of a long distance race.
In addition to the Adizero Adios Pro 4, adidas also introduces the Adizero Evo SL, a training shoe inspired by the record-breaking Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. This shoe brings advanced race technology to everyday training with a full-length Lightstrike Pro midsole and engineered mesh upper for targeted support and breathability.
The Adizero Adios Pro 4 will be available in January 2025 at a price of €250 / $250. It will be accompanied by a new apparel line designed to complement the performance capabilities of the shoe.
