Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been a constant presence in the sneaker headlines this year. His signature shoe, the adidas AE 1 Low, has enjoyed immense popularity, consistently selling out in new colorways. Now, Edwards is adding a patriotic touch to his footwear collection with the upcoming release of the adidas AE 1 Low “USA Navy.”
Scheduled to hit shelves on August 15th, the “USA Navy” iteration features a deep blue knit upper accented with pops of red and white. The red accents peek out from underneath the shoe’s TPU wings and color the toe cap, while white takes center stage on the tongue branding and the signature three stripes on the midfoot. A subtle hint of red emerges from the Boost technology peeking through the heel, and a hidden patriotic message is revealed on the inner tongue pull tab with a small “USA” inscription.
This isn’t the first time Edwards has sported a unique colorway of the AE 1 Low during high-profile games. During a recent Team USA scrimmage, Edwards donned a version of the shoe featuring a white sole unit and TPU wings contrasted with a blue knit upper and a red toe cap. While release details haven’t been confirmed for this specific “USA White” iteration, it certainly generated significant buzz among sneaker enthusiasts.
The “USA Navy” release comes on the heels of the upcoming “MX Grey” colorway scheduled for July 22nd. This version boasts a marbled grey aesthetic, while an additional “Mural” variant is also slated for release in August. The “Mural” edition flips the color scheme of the AE 1’s “With Love” launch colorway that debuted in December.
Edwards’ energetic personality and rapid rise as a superstar have undoubtedly fueled the popularity of the AE 1 Low. However, the shoe’s success can’t be solely attributed to celebrity association. The AE 1’s futuristic design has captured the imagination of sneakerheads, making it one of the most sought-after basketball shoes in recent memory.
The adidas AE 1 Low “USA Navy” releases on August 15th for $110 through adidas’ website and select retailers.
