KIKO KOSTADINOV Studio and ASICS SportStyle have joined forces to create the ASICS UB7-S GT-2160 sneaker, a shoe that seamlessly blends retro running elements with modern design sensibilities.
The ASICS UB7-S GT-2160 draws inspiration from various sources, including interlaced assemblages, functional utopias, and Mino ceramics. The shoe’s base is the classic GT-2160 model, which KIKO KOSTADINOV Studio has previously worked on. However, this new iteration transforms the original design through a thick grid-like pattern, which ASICS claims is inspired by functional utopias.
While this aesthetic upgrade may not be as maximalist as some of Kiko’s previous designs, it undoubtedly takes the classic running shoe into experimental territory. The bold yellow and black color scheme, reminiscent of the Nike Air Max TN Bumblebee, is particularly striking. The shoe’s fabric construction, delivered by the KIKO KOSTADINOV Studio, features bold yellow crisscrossed netting that amplifies the overall design.
In addition to the “bumblebee” colorway, the ASICS UB7-S GT-2160 will also be available in a second color option, featuring a mix of white, blue, and orange hues. Both colorways are set to release via ASICS Australia on August 23, with a worldwide release expected later this month.
KIKO KOSTADINOV and ASICS have established a strong partnership over the past six years, producing some exceptional sneakers. What began as a simple collaboration has evolved into a full-fledged sub-line, with the KIKO KOSTADINOV Studio playing an in-house role at ASICS. The duo shows no signs of slowing down, with a wild pair of Kiko x ASICS sneaker mules expected to drop in the near future.
