Sergio Rossi, the hallowed name in Italian footwear, has tapped Paul Andrew as its new creative director. This marks a pivotal moment for the brand, signaling a fresh chapter in its illustrious history.
Andrew, a designer renowned for his innovative spirit and technical mastery, brings a wealth of experience to the role. His tenure at Salvatore Ferragamo, where he ascended to the position of creative director, showcased his ability to helm a global fashion house. Yet, it is his eponymous label that truly cemented his status as a footwear visionary.
The appointment comes as Sergio Rossi undergoes a strategic transformation under the stewardship of CEO Helen Wright. The brand, part of the Lanvin Group, aims to rejuvenate its image while honoring its rich heritage. Andrew’s role is paramount in this endeavor. His task is formidable: to infuse the storied label with a contemporary allure without compromising its core identity.
The designer will oversee all footwear collections, including the men’s line. Notably, the Sì Rossi by Sergio Rossi range, targeting a younger demographic, will be discontinued, with select styles integrated into the main collection.
Andrew’s career trajectory is impressive. His namesake label, launched in 2013, garnered critical acclaim and earned him the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award. Subsequent roles at Salvatore Ferragamo solidified his reputation as a leading footwear designer.
Sergio Rossi has undergone leadership changes in recent years. The brand parted ways with artistic director Evangelie Smyrniotaki earlier this year. The appointment of Andrew coincides with CEO Helen Wright’s mission to reposition the brand.
Financial data reveals Sergio Rossi’s sales declined slightly in 2023. However, with Andrew at the helm, the brand aims to reverse this trend. The designer’s appointment aligns with Lanvin Group’s broader strategy, which includes the recent hiring of Peter Copping as artistic director for its flagship brand.
Sergio Rossi, part of the Lanvin Group, boasts a global retail network of 57 stores. The group, which went public last December, comprises several luxury fashion brands.
Andrew’s first collection for Sergio Rossi will debut for the fall 2025 season.
