PUMA continues to revive iconic silhouettes from its rich archive. The latest model to receive the revival treatment is none other than the PUMA Mostro, a sneaker that first made its debut in 1999. Drawing inspiration from the sleek yet tough sprinting spikes of the ’60s and the laid-back surfing shoes of the ’80s, the Mostro (Italian for “monster”) is a convention-defying hybrid that embodies originality and rebellious attitude.
To celebrate the Mostro’s 25th anniversary, PUMA has reached into its archive to bring back this experimental silhouette in two original colorways. The low-top sneaker returns in premium perforated leather, featuring monochromatic black and white color blocking on the upper. The model’s defining features, such as the signature spiked sole and versatile strap closure, remain intact, ensuring that the Mostro stays true to its roots.
PUMA’s decision to revisit the Mostro comes at a time when archived models from the late ’90s and early 2000s are finding new life in today’s modern sneaker ecosystem. With the successful revival of the PUMA Speedcat and the intense marketing behind the PUMA Palermo, the German brand is proving its ability to appease current sneaker trends by leveraging its deep archive.
The PUMA Mostro’s revival tour reaches its biggest milestone to date with the release of these two original colorways in this Summer 2024. The perforated leather upper is adorned with Formstrip logos on the lateral sides, while banana-shaped split tongues are secured by buckles and elastic bands that meet the medial soles. TPU heel badges host PUMA logos, and the underfoot sole provides grippy traction with its distinct cone-shaped rubber pattern.
To showcase the Mostro’s originality and rebellious spirit, PUMA has captured a series of sunbathed visuals in vibrant Marseille. These images perfectly depict the sneaker’s ability to defy conventions and make a bold statement.
These latest PUMA Mostro are scheduled starting July 13, 2024, at selected retailers worldwide, including KITH, Slam Jam, END. Clothing, SSENSE, SNS, Atmos, and SAiSON.
