The PUMA Suede, a timeless classic since 1968, gets a fresh interpretation as PUMA collaborates with Japanese streetwear label Liberaiders. This is the first partnership between the two brands, resulting in a unique take on the iconic silhouette. Guided by the concept of “Destination Unknown“, the sneaker features a textured hairy suede upper in Liberaiders’ signature blue hue, with a paper crane graphic sharing the spotlight with PUMA’s leaping cat logo on the tongue.
Mei Yong, founder of Liberaiders, directs the campaign for the PUMA x Liberaiders Suede, which pays homage to the rich history of Beijing’s rock music scene. Chinese rock pioneer and first-generation rock star Gao Qi and musicians Ouyang and Huang Shaofeng take center stage in the visuals, embodying the immortal spirit of rock’n’roll. The campaign is perfectly in line with Liberaiders’ design philosophy, which draws inspiration from diverse sources such as military surplus, travel, rock’n’roll, and photography.
Founded in 2017 by Mei Yong, who moved to Japan from China at the age of 20, Liberaiders encourages individuals to “create their own values.” The brand’s name, a combination of “Liberate” and “Raiders,” reflects this ethos. The collaboration with PUMA showcases Liberaiders’ commitment to creating unique and meaningful designs that resonate with their audience.
The PUMA x Liberaiders Suede features meticulous attention to detail, with leather lining and metal laces with Liberaiders branding. The sneaker’s simple yet striking design captures the essence of both brands, making it a must-have for sneaker enthusiasts and fans of streetwear fashion.
Sneakerheads can look forward to the release of the PUMA x Liberaiders Suede on June 8, 2024. The collaborative sneaker will be available at PUMA Stores, select PUMA Retail Stores, SOULGOODS and INVINCIBLE. Additionally, PUMA and Liberaiders have announced plans for a full apparel collection to launch the following year, further cementing their partnership and shared vision.
